5 Tips to Boost Your Confidence

Hello Beautiful Boss Ladies,

Today we are tackling a topic incredibly important - I trust many of us have had to deal with confidence issues throughout our lifetime. It is sometimes easy to think that confidence is an area where certain individuals are gifted and others are not; confidence is a skill that can be learned.

But why should we strive to be confident? 

Knowing the intent behind why you would like to achieve a goal is incredibly important as it is the driving force behind your motivation to achieve it. There are several areas where confidence helps us out - let’s highlight a few:

  1. Making Social Connections. When you feel the confidence to be your authentic self that's when genuine social connections are created.

  2. Helps You Grow as a Person. By building confidence in different areas in our lives we are growing ourselves. Taking time to build yourself is a surefire way of ensuring success, through believing in ourselves, we inspire others to believe in themselves as well!

  3. Lead to Increased Opportunities. By having confidence in yourself you are more likely to take calculated risks that can lead to incredible results. Having confidence allows you to speak up, ask insightful questions and by doing so you create opportunities for yourself.

Now that we have covered the importance of confidence, let’s give you the tools to use to start feeling confident:

  1. Psychology (Star Pose). How you feel affects your body language. This can be also used the other way around - your body language affects the way you feel. What does that mean? Have you ever noticed that when you are in a bad mood your face automatically frowns or becomes neutral? Now in this situation try smiling for five minutes. Does your mood improve after you have held that smile? Science tells us yes, your body language affects the way that you feel. A good way to use this trick to your advantage is to power pose when you need to feel extra confident. A power pose is when you stick your hands out into the air and spread out your legs. Do this for 2-5 minutes before a job interview, speaking engagement, or any other situation where you may need it.

  2. Affirmations. My current favourite affirmation is - I am taking aligned and inspired action towards my goals and big vision. It is so easy to be bogged down with comparison, negativity and limiting beliefs - do not do it. Motivate yourself to keep moving forward, keep taking chances to get to your goals. Your only point of comparison is yourself. Are you a better version of yourself today than you were yesterday? Affirm yourself in the direction you are headed by writing out affirmations.   3. Growth Mindset. Each time that you do not meet your goal you have an opportunity to learn. Every single lesson is helping you become the best version of yourself. You are being prepared for your dreams. Each challenge in your path helps you grow into that future self that is persistent. Each time that you miss out it is because there is something greater out there for you. Hold this belief in your heart 💜

  4. Eye Contact. By holding eye contact with those that you are communicating with you are non-verbally showcasing your confidence. Now we do not mean staring into someone's eye awkwardly - that probably will not get you the best result. Be comfortable looking someone in the eyes as you are having a conversation with them. By making eye contact you are non-verbally building trust, communicating and showing them that you value their time. What does not holding eye contact communicate? It gives off the vibe that you do not want to have a conversation with them, it could mean that you are hiding something, makes the other person feel undervalued. 

  5. Dress Well. We saved the best for last. One of my favourite things to do each day is get dressed. I do not know about you but each time that I put some time into my outfit my day turns out that much better. By dressing yourself in pieces that make you feel confident, you are forced to show up as your best self. This is something that you get to play around with, try an experiment - put on your best-dressed self and your worst dressed self and see how it affects your mood, confidence level and attitude.
